Brazil Map

The fifth largest country in the world. Brazil's Atlantic seacoast stretches for more then 4,500 miles along its eastern border, creating some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It is the only country in South America whose in habitants do not speak Spanish, but speak Portugese only. Because of its enormous size, Brazil shares a border with every country in South America except Chile and Ecuador. It is divided into five very distinctive regions: The North, the Northeast, the West-Central Plateau, the Southeast and the South, all of which provide Brazil with a uniquely diverse range of climates as well as one of the largest numbers of flora and fauna found anywhere in the world. Here in Brazil you will also find the Amazon, the largest river system in the world, the wildlife reserves of the Pantanal, the world's widest waterfall of Iguassu, the history of the mixture of European and African Culture in cities such as Salvador da Bahia, Recife, Olinda and the extreme and very unique almost futuristic architecture in Brasilia, the Capitol of Brazil. Rio de Janeiro
Known as the "Marvelous City"...Rio, lies between mountains and the sea. The statue of Christ the Redeemer, symbol of Rio, watches over the city from the top of Corcovado mountain. The Sugarloaf mountain, the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon, Gardens, museums, beaches like Copacabana, Ipanema, and Barra de Tijuca are the most popular sites. The city brings together one of the country's busiest night and cultural life, and the world's most well known Carnival with its luxurious samba schools.

Buzios
Is one of Brazil's best kept secrets. A small rustic fishing village less then 125 miles from Rio, it was discovered by the wealthy and famous of Rio who were looking for a weekend retreat away from the hustle of Rio's beaches. Buzios remains a private playground for the "In" crowd, who have built spectacular homes here, and also offers the lucky "outsider" charming Inns (Pousadas).

Sao Paulo
A sophisticated city with a business, industrial and commercial center. An artistic colossus and South America's fastest growing city. The atmosphere of Sao Paulo is formal, hurried and business. It is a vast complex of ultra-modern architecture, tree filled plazas, colonial buildings, churches and monuments. The people of the city, like the architecture, are also cosmopolitan. Sao Paulo offers an abundance of attractions such as the Cathedral, Butana Institute ad the Praca da Republica, site of a Sunday craft fair that offers a unique selection of paintings, sculptures, leather goods and other handicrafts.

Belo Horizonte
The third largest city in Brazil, Capital of the booming state of Minas Gerais, where gold, diamonds and precious stones are still mined. The architecture ranges from neoclassical to modern. Belo Horizonte is the gateway to the colonial historical cities of Congonhas do Campo, Ouro Preto, Sao Joao del Rey, Tiradente and Mariana.

Congonhas
Visit Alejandrinho's Sculpture Masterpiece "Twelve prophets in soapstone," which now stand in front of the Church of Bom Jesus do Matosinho and the sculptural representation of the Via Cruces in polychromatic woodwork.

Ouro Preto
Sight-seeing tour of the Mineralogy Museum, which gives you a complete mineralogist view of Brazil and displays geologic samples from other continents. Visit the churches of St. Francis of Assisi and Pilar that marked the climax of the gold cycle with carved works painted entirely in gold.

Pantanal
Deep within the interior of Brazil is the Pantanal of Mato Grosso, where you will find some of the most pristine terrain on earth in an area covering more than 85,000 square miles. This is where you will find more then 600 species of birds, a prime destination for bird watchers, naturalist and wildlife photographers from all over the world. The Pantanal is one of the few places left on earth to observe and photograph nature in such natural settings. It is also a popular with fishermen who come here for the golden dorado.

River Safari Package

Day 1 - Meeting upon arrival at Cuiaba Airport and transfer to Cabana do Pantanal.
Enjoy a half-day guided walking excursion in the Pantanal. See a variety of plants, animals and reptiles and experience firsthand the incredible beauty of the Pantanal. (L,D)
Day 2 - Travel by boat on a photo-safari into the heart of the Pantanal. See alligators, wild birds, monkeys and much more. Lunch is at a small farmhouse along the river. The afternoon is free for rowing, horseback riding motor boat tours, fishing trips or swimming in the pool. After dinner, alligator spotting on the Cuiaba River. (B,L,D)
Day 3 - Enjoy a half day excursion to a small village in the Pantanal. See how the people of the Pantanal live, how they fish, grow their own food, and build their own homes. Afterwards, spend the afternoon fishing for Piranha in a beautiful bay along the Cuiaba River. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Early morning transfer to the Airport in Cuiaba.

- Accommodations are in six rustic cabins and the capacity of the hotel is limited to 12 persons. All meals, excursions, transfers are included in the tour. Salvador Da Bahia
Bahia became the initial source of wealth for the colony as the Portugese settlers planted massive sugar cane and tobacco plantations. The influence of the Slaves from Africa that were brought here to work in these plantations can be seen in the dance traditions, which trace back to Africa, the religion of Candomble and the local cuisine with its delicious blends of palm oil, coconut milk that have mad this city famous.

Recife
The largest city in Brazil's Northeast and with a great number of canals and rivers is known as "the Venice of Brazil". Recife is built along the sea and derives its name from the reefs which protect its shore, making the water calm and the surf smooth. Rich in colonial architecture, churches and old palaces built in baroque style. Just north of Recife lies Olinda, it is of historical interest, and has been declared a Cultural and Natural Monument by UNESCO.

Belem

Manaus
Located in the heart of the Amazon its history is exotic. The fabulous wealth of the period (late 19th century) led to the construction of the legendary Opera House, where the most famous singers of the era performed. Also during this era of "rubber boom" the Municipal Market, patterned after Les Halles in Paris, and the Floating Pier and Custom House, designed and manufactured in Liverpool, England were built. Visiting the Amazon, you have two main options: Belem and Manaus. Rio Negro, the black river, is where our Amazon adventure will take place.

Ariau Jungle Lodge

Day 1 - Meeting upon arrival at Airport in Manaus and immediate transfer to the Ariau Jungle Lodge. The Ariau Jungle Lodge is an ecological hotel located in the middle of the jungle (35 miles from Manaus) and on the Rio Negro and Ariau Creek, close to the Anavilhanas archipelago. Day 2 - After breakfast a jungle trek and in the evening a reconnaissance tour by motorized canoe, piranha fishing and alligator spotting. Overnight accommodations at the Lodge. (B,L,D)
